The owl’s appearance is a shock of ruffled feathers in dark brown, graphite and streaks of black, radiating from a pair of yellow eyes. He somewhat resembles a Jim Henson muppet. The wildlife rehabilitator holds him by his feet with one hand, and films with the other, clutching the owl’s legs like one might hold a bouquet. A protective layer of towel separates the two.

The owl is unimpressed. He screeches three times, neck feathers bellowing with each burst of protest: The first is a stern plea. His pupils widen, followed by a second screech with marked increase in volume and agitation. He nibbles furiously at the towel, whipping his head back and forth like a dog with a chew toy. Then, a pause. Unable to shake his bonds, his new reality sets in. He screeches a third time, now with some restraint, a return to his former volume. Resignation.
