WAYS TO HELP OWLS

✅ Make your windows more visible to prevent birdstrike

✅ Install owl nest boxes

⚠️ Never use anticoagulent rodent poisons

⚠️ Never use glue traps

✅ Educate others about safe pest control methods

⚠️ Keep cats indoorscats kill small owls and large owls kill cats

✅ Report nesting owls at databases such as iNaturalist.org and eBird.org

⚠️ Replace barbed wire fences

✅ Make non-barbed wire fences more visible

✅ Install chimney caps (sometimes called cowls) to prevent smaller owls getting trapped in chimneys

⚠️ Remove garden nets (owls get trapped in them)

⚠️ Take down soccer nets when not in use (see above)

✅ Leave dead trees standing (to provide nest holes and calling perches for owls)

✅ Let your lawns grow! (Mowed grass doesn’t support the species owls prey on)

✅ Give owls space

⚠️ Don’t give owls food or water

✅ Observe young owls on the ground to make sure they need help before intervening

⚠️ Report people who are harming or selling owls

✅ Drive extra carefully after dusk

⚠️ Avoid using artificial lights after dark

✅ Protect old growth forests and protect habitat

⚠️ Keep drones away from owls

✅ Support and donate to owl research and conservation
