A Saw-whet Owl is contained in a lavender pillowcase or pouch during a banding operation to help efforts monitoring the migration of the species. The owl faces the camera with a pair of curious yellow eyes. A thumb is wrapped over top of the fabric. A paper document with red backing sits on a desk behind.

Ozark Bird Conservancy is currently monitoring the fall migration patterns of Saw-Whet Owls, so they can study the “habits of these cryptic and poorly understood birds!”

OBC operate in the Interior Highlands – an elevated area in central North America that spans parts of Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.

Pictured is one of the owls they banded during the 2024 season.
